Bathroom Aids
Bathing and other bathroom activities can be extremely challenging for patients and caregivers. With products from our providers, Invacare and Carex, these challenges can be far less daunting.
Invacare is in the business of creating adaptable solutions that are lasting and safe. Their bath, commode and grab bar products are among the best available.
Freestanding tubs from Invacare allow full immersion bathing in a comfortable seated position. The tubs have multiple whirlpool jets and side-door entries that enable ambulatory residents to enter and exit safely without the need for a lift or transfer device. Invacare offers a line of supine tubs, as well, which provide the maximum comfort for both the patient and the caregiver. These tubs are suitable for both semi-ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients and are made with user-friendly controls that are easily accessible.
Invacare offers recessed side-entry tubs in an Alzheimer’s version and in a version for assisted living. Adjustable height models are available to reduce back strain and bending for the caregiver. Some models are available with reclining backrest to allow bathing with restraint-free comfort.
Lift/transporters available from Invacare can be rolled easily into their tubs and can be left there while the patient bathes. Models are available with and without digital scales and packages are offered which combine both the tub and the lift. In addition, Invacare offers a line of skin care products specifically designed for patients who are in need of assistance with bathing.
Commodes are available from Invacare in folding models and in models made with aluminum frames or gray coated steel. Both heavy-duty and bariatric models are available, the latter with a weight capacity of 650 pounds. Models are available with and without backrest and with a variety of features related to comfort and stability, such as snap-on seats and lids, armrests, rubber tips and adjustable height legs. Most Invacare commodes can be placed by the patient’s bed or can be used as a toilet safety frame or raised seat when the backrest is removed. Commode accessories are available from Invacare, as are rust resistant shower commode chairs.
Carex offers an extensive array of items for the bath. Among these are bath and shower seats, bath safety products, bath transfer benches, commodes and accessories, and raised toilet seats.
Their adjustable bath or shower seats and stools, made with or without backs, are made of durable plastic and have easy-to-grip handles. Flared aluminum legs with slip-resistant caps help prevent tipping and the Carex patented Exact Level ™ system makes these seats and benches even more secure. Some are designed with storage areas for hand-held shower sprays and draining holes to eliminate pooling of water. In addition, some are available in compact models for smaller spaces.
Bath mats, rails and grab bars are available in a variety of sizes from Carex. Also, available is a toilet support rail that enables the patient to sit or stand safely at the toilet.
Bathtub transfer benches are available from Carex with or without cut-outs and commode pails. These benches are adjustable and are made with slip-resistant surfaces on seats and backs. Extra care is taken with oversized tips for more secure, slip-proof use.
Carex offers a line of commodes and accessories that includes bedside commodes, three-in-one models, extra wide steel-framed models and models that fold compactly. Liners, replacement pails and safety frames are available, as well.
Raised toilet seats are available from Carex, with and without adjustable handles and in both elongated and round shapes. Locking systems are built into these seats for secure connection of the seat to the toilet bowl.
